ST. PAUL, Minn. — A man has been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being hit by a Green Line light-rail train in St. Paul.
A Metro Transit spokesman says the accident occurred Monday afternoon. He says a preliminary investigation found the male pedestrian was illegally walking between the eastbound and westbound tracks.
Witnesses say the man had a gash in his head and leg injuries. The train was delayed for an hour and passengers were bused to their destinations.
The Green Line light rail opened in June and runs between St. Paul and Minneapolis. Trains travel at up to 35 mph. Investigators haven't determined how fast the train was moving before the accident.
The train driver was placed on paid leave following routine protocol and will undergo standard drug and alcohol testing.
