The Twins have reached a new two-year agreement with their top minor league affiliate, the Rochester Red Wings of the Class AAA International League, the two teams announced Monday.

Twins General Manager Terry Ryan was in upstate New York for the announcement, which cements a relationship that began in 2003. The working agreement runs through the 2016 season.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to extend our relationship with Rochester. From ownership to the staff to the community, it’s been a wonderful home, and a good fit, for the Twins,” Twins President Dave St. Peter said.

“It works well from a travel perspective, the operation in Rochester is first-class, and we’ve enjoyed some success there.”

Earlier this month, the Twins extended their operating agreement with Class A Cedar Rapids for another six years, through the 2020 season.

Twins share honor

Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe and center fielder Danny Santana were named AL co-players of the week for the period ending Aug. 24. The only other Twins player to win a weekly honor this season was Chris Colabello, who won on April 7.

Plouffe batted .367 (11-for-30) for the week with five doubles, two homers, 10 RBI and six runs scored.

Santana batted .378 (14-for-37) with two doubles, two triples, one homer, six RBI and seven runs scored.

It was the first weekly honor for both players.

Plouffe already has established career highs this season in doubles (37), triples (two), RBI (65) and runs scored (57).

Santana is tied for the AL rookie lead in triples (six), is third in runs scored (48), fifth in hits (93), tied for fifth in extra-base hits (29), and sixth in doubles (17) and RBI (34).
