TWINS UPDATE

They are 4-4 against the Tigers this year, 1-1 at home. Saturday’s first game is a makeup of an April 27 rainout. They were swept in their only other doubleheader this year, May 1 vs. the Dodgers. ... Detroit and Minnesota will meet 11 times over the season’s final 36 games. ... The Twins are 16-25 all-time at Target Field against Detroit and haven’t had a winning record since 2010. ... They are 6-13 at home since the All-Star break. ... Former Tiger Casey Fien has struck out 14 in 14 innings against his old team but has a 5.14 ERA. ... LHP Tommy Milone is 3-0 with a 2.31 ERA in four regular-season starts against Detroit and held the Tigers to one run in six innings for Oakland during the 2012 AL Division Series.

 

TIGERS UPDATE

They have won five of their past eight but are 1½ games behind Kansas City for first place in the AL Central. They are a half-game ahead of Seattle for the final wild-card spot in the AL. ... This is the end of a weeklong road trip that began in Tampa Bay, where they won twice before dropping Thursday’s finale. ... They are 35-28 on the road, but before the series with the Rays, they had lost 10 of their previous 12 away from home. ... They are without RHP Anibal Sanchez, RHP Joakim Soria and OF Andy Dirks. ... Justin Verlander missed his last start because of irritation in his shoulder, but he was cleared on Thursday to return this weekend. ... Former Twin Joe Nathan is 26-for-32 in save situations this season, and his ERA is 5.28, by far a career worst. ... Ex-Twin OF Torii Hunter is batting .269 with 15 home runs.
