The National Republican Congressional Committee has committed to a $2.5 million ad buy in the Minneapolis media market that could help GOP challengers Stewart Mills and Torrey Westrom.

The buy will stretch from early October through Election Day, Nov. 4.

Mills is challenging Democratic Rep. Rick Nolan in the Eighth Congressional District, while Westrom is attempting to unseat Democratic Rep. Collin Peterson in the Seventh.

"Minnesota voters deserve to know about Collin Peterson's lavish congressional perks over his 23-year career in Washington and Rick Nolan's anti-veteran voting record," said NRCC spokesman Tyler Q. Houlton.

Democrats fired back.

"National Republicans are bailing out millionaire partydude Stewart Mills III's campaign because they know he will be a reliable Republican vote for their budget that raises Medicare costs on Minnesota seniors," said Brandon Lorenz of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

The nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates the Nolan/Mills race as a "tossup" and potentially "one of the most brutal House races of the year." The same political handicapper rates the Seventh District race as "lean Democrat," meaning Peterson is still favored.
