GREEN BAY, Wis. — A Green Bay high school damaged by fire will start almost two weeks late.

WLUK-TV reports ( ) the original start date for classes at Preble High School was supposed to be Sept. 2. But a fire damaged the school's gym Aug. 8 after investigators say district employees did not properly dispose of rags they were using to resurface the gym's floor.

School district officials announced the new start date Friday as Sept. 15.

District officials said they are still finalizing plans to make up the lost time, but they say their plans will avoid using weekends and holidays to make-up time. They also said there will be no changes to end of the school year dates.
