ST. PAUL, Minn. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says areas along the Mississippi River in southern Minnesota have reopened to commercial shipping.

KAGE-AM reports that dredging activities were completed Thursday in Wabasha and Winona. The Corps removed more than 290,000 cubic yards of dredged material from the river through two government operations.

The navigation channels were closed July 19 near Wabasha and July 23 near Winona. The channels at both locations are now open without any restrictions.

Channel surveying boats will continue looking for shallow areas.
