Tuesday's rush hour turned into a disaster for commuters in Minneapolis as road work on eastbound 94 and a motorcycle crash at Huron Blvd. led to major delays. Traffic stacked up around 7:45 a.m. and failed to loosen for the rest of the morning. Traffic was at near gridlock state from 7th Street north of the Lowry Hill Tunnel past the scene.

Eastbound 394 also felt the effects from Hwy. 100 into downtown Minneapolis.

A rollover crash on the downtown exits from northbound 35W closed two lanes there and that led to a massive backup down to the Crosstown. At 9 a.m., the backlog showed no signs of dissipating as the slow downs extended into the Crosstown Commons. That accident is still blocking two lanes and has traffic at a near standstill.

Southbound 35E drivers didn't escape the misery. Wrecks at County Road H2, County 96 and Roselawn Avenue made the trip into downtown St. Paul a very uncomfortable drive.

Eden Prairie drivers had a brief set back with a crash on eastbound Hwy. 212 at Mitchell Road tangled traffic for about 20 minutes just after 8 a.m.

In Bloomington, a wreck at 98th Street set off the chain of wrecks when two vehicles collided in the center lane around 7:30 a.m. That led to backups to Hwy. 13.

Westbound 94 drivers were delayed when a wreck at Cretin Avenue took out a lane as authorities dealt with the problems on eastbound 94.

Congestion slowed the drive into downtown St. Paul from Woodbury to 35E for most of the morning. Things are a bit better now with just 17 minutes needed from Manning Avenue to downtown St. Paul.

The best drive by far was on Cedar Avenue and I-494 through Bloomington. Commuters there escaped the headaches that plagued the rest of the metro area.
