Disappearing Buddha

Eat Street Buddha Kitchen & Lounge has gone belly up. Apparently, the Asian fusion copycat joint that moved into Thom Pham's former Azia space in south Minneapolis couldn't rekindle Azia's cranberry wonton-stoked glory days. Eat Street Buddha's online presence has vanished like a ghost, but let's hope would-be tenants aren't spooked by the dreaded "cursed space" chatter.

Toehold in distilling

After acing the whole beer-making thing, the crew behind Steel Toe Brewing has entered the spirits game with their separate-entity Millers and Saints Distillery. Based in Steel Toe's St. Louis Park brewery, Millers and Saints launched its debut vodka last week. Whiskey plans are in the works. The family affair is led by brothers-in-law Joe Muggli and Jason Schoneman (Steel Toe's brewer), and their father-in-law Ron Olney.

Beer, the movie

Minneapolis filmmaker Dave Okar debuts his local suds documentary, "Crafted to Last – Minnesota Beer Blooms," Saturday at the Parkway Theater. Two years in the making, the film follows the latest wave of Minnesota craft breweries, visiting 16 breweries and brewpubs across the state, touching on the laws and history of local brewing. The Minneapolis premiere features food, live music and local beer (duh). A Duluth screening is slated for July 25.
