Almost as suddenly and nonchalantly as one of the many music videos he posts, inventive DIY St. Paul rapper Allan Kingdom dropped a new album last week via iTunes and Bandcamp titled "Future Memoirs." The 12-track collection includes production by Kid Cudi cohort Plain Pat, Ryan Olson, Psymun and Audio Perm's Bobby Raps. Wunderkind falsetto singer Spooky Black guests on the single "Wavey," which Fader featured on its June mixtape. It offers a good hint of the album's psychedelic, nervy, jittery flavor. It's probably not Allan Kingdom's breakthrough record but suggests it's going to be a wild ride until then. …

About as laid-back as the punky bar ever gets, Grumpy's NE hosts the 16th annual Northeast Folk Fest on Saturday with 20 acoustic sets on two stages (noon-midnight, free). Performers will include Charlie Parr, Paul Metsa, the Liquor Pigs, Germaine Gemberling and the Bitter Spills. … Local acoustic guitar maestros Tim Sparks and Phil Heywood will pair up Friday at the Aster Cafe (9 p.m., $10). Sparks just issued a dazzling new album, "Chasin' the Boogie." … Also on Friday, Savage-reared dubstep/EDM star Vaski is back in town for his monthly residency at First Ave's Record Room with guest Bass Violator (10 p.m., $10). …

Viral photos of Doomtree's members working in a studio this past week have fans hopeful that the latest all-crew album will be out by year's end. By summer's end, the crew will drop "Every Single Day," a limited-edition 500-page book featuring photos, artwork, essays and other doodads. Tickets are moving as fast as the nearby St. Croix River for the Square Lake Festival, returning to Stillwater Aug. 9 with Low, Frankie Lee, Carroll, Shiro Dame and Anonymous Choir, the latter of which will perform a live score to a silent film (SquareLakeFestival.com). … The Red Stag Supperclub announced the lineup for its eighth annual free block party on Aug. 3 also with Frankie Lee and Shiro Dame, plus Sonny Knight & the Lakers, Alpha Consumer and E.L.nO. …

As one well-liked Minneapolis rock club closes this weekend to make room for a sports bar (Cause in Uptown), another long-beloved Minneapolis rock club is gearing up to reopen in a space where sports bars have gone before it: The 400 Bar's (re)construction is well underway on the fourth floor of the Mall of America in Bloomington, and it looks like the first show there will be with Seattle's Kate Tucker & the Sons of Sweden on July 28. Denny Laine is also booked there Aug. 1 the night before his former Wings mate plays the current Twins ballpark site.
