APPLETON, Wis. — An Appleton man stole more than $360,000 from his disabled son's trust fund and spent the money on drugs, pornography and travel, prosecutors said this week.
Todd D. Laseke, 48, is charged with felony theft and misdemeanor drug possession. He declined to comment to Post-Crescent Media (http://post.cr/1xS9364 ) when he was in court Tuesday.
Laseke withdrew or transferred about $500,000 from the trust fund to his personal account from 2008 to 2011. About $135,000 can be attributed to Laseke's monthly allowance during that time, but investigators say the other $367,672 was beyond his stipend.
Laseke was managing the trust fund for his adult son, who was awarded $1.4 million from a Marinette hospital after he suffered a brain injury that left him mentally disabled. Laseke was required to submit annual accounting reports to the Outagamie County register in probate's office, which oversaw the funds.
The office began to raise concerns of "substantial" spending in 2010. Laseke spent $29,000 on a down payment for a house and another $28,000 to buy a minivan, prosecutors said, and he acknowledged spending more money on trips, marijuana, cocaine and a membership to an adult website.
A court commissioner imposed a $100,000 signature bond Tuesday.
