STEVENS POINT, Wis. — Roundy's supermarkets says it will close its Stevens Point distribution center.
The company announced the closure in a statement Tuesday. Stevens Point Journal Media report (http://spjour.nl/1jHndhY ) a company spokesman refused to say how many employees will be affected.
But the state Department of Workforce development says Roundy's told it that the center has 196 employees and many will be terminated.
The company cites the divestiture of its Rainbow grocery stores in the Twin Cities area.
The statement says Roundy's will move its Stevens Point operations to its Oconomowoc and Mazomanie distribution facilities in phases. The Stevens Point facility will cease operations entirely by Sept. 30.
Milwaukee-based Roundy's operates 174 supermarkets and 110 pharmacies under the Pick 'n Save, Rainbow, Copps, Metro Market and Mariano's brands in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois.
