Franken spends limited time with Obama

MINNEAPOLIS — Re-election seeking Sen. Al Franken joined President Barack Obama for only a limited portion of a two-day Minnesota visit.
The Democratic incumbent toured a suburban work force center as part of an unpublicized stop with Obama on Friday. But then Franken headed north to Duluth for a memorial service for former Rep. Jim Oberstar. Franken didn't attend a town hall event Thursday in Minneapolis or a speech in the city on Friday.
Republicans are criticizing Franken as being too cozy with Obama when it comes to economic policy. A political group known as the Heartland Campaign Fund is driving that point home in an ad launched in conjunction with Obama's Minnesota trip.
Other Democratic luminaries, including Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Gov. Mark Dayton, spoke before Obama at Friday's event.
