TWINS UPDATE

The Twins dropped three of four games against the Rangers a month ago at Target Field and can lose the season series with one loss this weekend. ... The Twins are 45-57 all-time at Globe Life Park. ... Joe Mauer's batting average dipped to .254 last week, but in seven games since then he's 12-for-29 for a .414 average. That includes five doubles but just one walk. ... Josh Willingham was not in the starting lineup on Thursday, but the Twins said nothing was wrong with him. He's 1-for-5 against Tepesch, with that hit being a home run. He's 0-for-3 against Darvish but is a career .316 hitter against Lewis with three home runs. ... Kendrys Morales homered off Tepesch the last time he faced him, on May 26, 2013.

RANGERS UPDATE

The Rangers were one of several teams interested in signing Morales but were outbid by the Twins. Then-first baseman Mitch Moreland dislocated his left ankle the day after Morales signed with the Twins and was lost for the season. Carlos Pena — remember him? — is getting a shot there. ... Tepesch is pitching on seven days' rest after being pushed back in the rotation. ... Colby Lewis is making his 14th start of the season and has no quality starts — at least six innings with no more than three earned runs. Alex Rios is a career .481 hitter against Phil Hughes and was 2-for-3 with a double against him at Target Field earlier this year.
