She bagged it

Eleanor Hedlund knows how to "Grow Your Own Thing." That was the theme of the design competition for this year's cloth shopping bag at the Minneapolis Farmers Market, sponsored by Country Financial. The ninth-grader at Academy of Holy Angels received a $1,000 scholarship for her winning design. Shoppers will find the free bags available on occasional days at the market; the next one is Friday.

A tale of good food

What does your littlest shopper need? A colorful board book that tells the tale of produce from market to kitchen. "We're Going to the Farmers' Market," from artist Stefan Page, is a charming new volume from Chronicle Books ($7.99) for toddlers who may still be chewing on their books. ABC flash cards about the farmers market are also available ($14.95). Find them at http://tinyurl.com/luqxgmv.
