SCHOFIELD, Wis. — Police say a man's body was found in a car that was submerged in the Eau Claire River in Schofield.
A Marathon County Sheriff's Department dive team began looking for the car Tuesday morning. Divers were in the water for hours working to pull the car out.
Everest Metro police say the doors were locked and the windows were up.
Witness Nathan Everson tells WAOW-TV (http://bit.ly/1na1v7f ) he was riding his bicycle when he saw skid marks on the grassy embankment. Everson says he looked in the water, saw the car and went to call 911.
Police say after calling 911, Everson went into the water and was on the hood of the car when officers arrived.
The driver's name was not released. Police are treating it as a traffic crash.
