DULUTH, Minn. — The U.S. Coast Guardhas reportedly located  the body of the pilot of a plane that crashed in Lake Superior off Duluth.

The body was found underwater just before 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, television station WDIO reported, citing the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office. Deputies said the water is so deep they have to hold off on the recovery until they can bring in commercial divers.

WDIO also reports that searchers found the plane's logbook.

Duluth Fire Department officials say the initial report came from the Duluth International Airport tower at 11:30 a.m. The tower lost contact with a single-engine white-and-maroon plane with at least one occupant. A witness told fire officials they had heard an impact near Brighton Beach.

The Coast Guard, State Patrol, Duluth Fire Department, Duluth Police Department and St. Louis County Rescue Squad are on the scene.
