LakeÂville City AdÂminÂisÂtraÂtor Steve MielÂke will leave the city afÂter 10 years to work for Dakota County.
StartÂing July 21, MielÂke will beÂcome physÂicÂal deÂvelÂopÂment diÂrecÂtor for the counÂty, a job that has been vaÂcant since the reÂtireÂment of Lynn ThompÂson last spring.
MielÂke, 56, grew up in Mankato and graduÂatÂed from Minnesota State University, Mankato. He beÂgan his caÂreer as city manÂagÂer for Janesville, Minn., and from there went to Hopkins, where he was the city manÂagÂer for 17 years, preÂsidÂing over a large reÂdeÂvelÂopÂment efÂfort in that city.
He said he was atÂtractÂed to LakeÂville's wide, open deÂvelÂopÂment poÂtenÂtial. DurÂing his tenÂure, the city popÂuÂlaÂtion grew from 49,000 to 58,000; it built a new poÂlice staÂtion, and bus servÂice was exÂtendÂed to LakeÂville on Interstate 35 and Cedar Avenue.
The counÂty job will alÂlow him to conÂtinÂue using his deÂvelÂopÂment exÂperÂtise, MielÂke said. He is lookÂing forÂward to workÂing with counÂty leadÂers on the counÂty's straÂtegic diÂrecÂtion.
LakeÂville MayÂor Matt Little said in a stateÂment FriÂday that he has reÂspectÂed MielÂke's counÂsel and apÂpreciÂatÂed his comÂmitÂment to the city.
"He has had a great imÂpact on the city and fosÂtered proÂducÂtive partÂnerÂships that have been benÂeÂfiÂcial to the enÂtire comÂmuniÂty," Little said. "He will cerÂtainÂly be missed as a co-workÂer and a friend.''
