Son of Flash. Brother of Dee.
Nick Gordon was drafted by the Twins with the fifth overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft.
Gordon starred at Olympia High in Orlando Fla., where he played shortstop and pitched. He hit 94 on the gun, but he's definitely is going to play the infield. The 6-foot-2, 170 pound left-handed hitting shortstop hit .494 with 10 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 27 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 99 plate appearances as a senior, and .505 with 15 doubles, six triples and 12 stolen bases as a junior.
Despite outfielder Alex Jackson being available, the Twins wanted Gordon, considered the best position player available in this draft.
"We have been locked in on Nick,'' said Deron Johnson, the Twins scouting director. ''He was our guy from the start. We like the fact he can play shortstop. We like his offensse, his ability to swing. I think he's going to have power down the road.''
