After winning the 2018 Super Bowl, Minnesota is going after the men's basketball NCAA Final Four.
Gov. Mark Dayton, Minnesota business leaders and sports celebrities are scheduled to announce Minnesota's bid for the Final Four at a state Capitol news conference Tuesday.
In January, the NCAA named Minneapolis as one of eight finalists to host Final Fours from 2017 to 2020, a process that is expected to conclude in November.
Last month, the NFL chose Minneapolis to host the 2018 Super Bowl. Minneapolis was chosen largely because of the $1 billion stadium being built where the Metrodome used to stand.
According to the NCAA, a Final Four venue must be able to hold 60,000 spectators, and the host city needs to have 10,000 hotel rooms within a reasonable distance. The 2015 men's Final Four will be played in Indianapolis and the 2016 event will be in Houston.
The Metrodome was host to the Final Four in 1992 and 2001, with Duike winning both tournaments.
