ATLANTA — A Georgia district attorney says his office has begun reviewing a raid that left a toddler severely burned by a flash grenade thrown by officers.
Habersham County District Attorney Brian Rickman said Monday his office will focus on whether any of the officers involved in the May 28 raid should face prosecution. Rickman says the Coweta County district attorney will participate as an outside investigator.
Rickman says his office also wants to speak with the toddler's family when possible.
The family of 19-month-old Bounkham Phonesavanh plans to hold a vigil Monday as the child undergoes another surgery at an Atlanta hospital.
Authorities have said officers were looking for a suspect who may have been armed. The device, which creates a bright flash and loud bang, is used to distract suspects.
