ROCHESTER, Minn. — Minnesota Republicans are into their second day of voting on an endorsement for the U.S. Senate seat they hope to reclaim this fall.
St. Louis County Commissioner Chris Dahlberg and businessman Mike McFadden were in a two-man contest after several other candidates fell short. But neither of them had yet achieved the 60 percent needed to endorse, with Dahlberg shy of 54 percent and McFadden at about 45 percent after six ballots. A seventh ballot began after midnight Saturday.
The endorsed candidate will remain in the running to take on Democratic Sen. Al Franken in November.
If Dahlberg wins, he'll see McFadden again this August in a primary. McFadden wasn't abiding by the convention decision but Dahlberg was.
Franken will pick up his party's endorsement in Duluth on Saturday.
