So much for seeing Johnny Rotten and Jesus on stage together.
The new touring version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical “Jesus Christ Superstar” with the real-life John Lydon, ‘N Sync’s JC Chasez and other once-hot singers was so coolly received by the public, the entire tour has been outright canceled by organizers. Tickets for the July 31 performance at Xcel Energy Center will be refunded automatically if bought over the phone or internet, or they can be turned in at point of purchase for buyers who got them in person.
According to the New York Times, the cast had been rehearsing as late as Thursday for the tour, which was to kick off June 9 in the Big Easy and hit arenas all along the way between Madison Square Garden and the Staples Center.
Much of the attention over the revamped “JCS” surrounded Lydon’s involvement in the role as King Herod, but that apparently wasn't enough. The 51-city tour was also to feature Beyonce’s old bandmate Michele Williams as Mary Magdalene, Justin Timberlake’s old bandmate Chasez as Pontious Pilate, Incubus singer Brandon Boyd as Judas and British reality-TV contest winner Ben Forster as the Big Man. Ah well. God gave us his only son to die for our sins, and he gave us "Dancing With the Stars" to help resurrect the careers of folks like these.
