Ira Jourdain has joined the increasingly populated

field of candidates running city-wide for Minneapolis school board but the DFL endorsees in three district seats still lack opponents with less than a week to file.

Jourdain is the fifth candidate to file for the two city-wide seats to be filled in this year's campaign. He joins DFL endorsees Rebecca Gagnon and Iris Altamirano, plus Doug Mann and Dick Franson.

Jourdain is the father of four and works as a human services worker with the Division of Indian Work in a project involving fathers. He finished third in balloting for the two endorsement spots last month, topping out at 42 percent delegate support. He originally pledged to abide by that convention endorsement, but said it was important to have more people runnng with children in the schools.

Another potential candidate, Andrew Minck, finished last in the convention balloting. Minck hasn't publicly disclosed whether he still plans to run, but his campaign Facebook site has been inactive since May 7

Meanwhile, the three seats to be filled in election districts in the city's eastern half have drawn no filers other than the DFL endorsees: Jenny Arneson in northeast Minneapolis, Siad Ali in the city's eastern midsection, and Nelson Inz in the Nokomis area. Filing closes on June 3.
