GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. — Judy Garland's Minnesota hometown is preparing to celebrate the 75th anniversary of "The Wizard of Oz," the film that made her a star.
For the 39th consecutive year, the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, in northern Minnesota, will hold a weeklong festival June 10-15.
This year's Wizard of Oz Festival — formerly the Judy Garland Festival — will include a number of special events marking the movie's anniversary.
The festivities kick off with the opening of a new Wizard of Oz exhibit at the Judy Garland Museum, featuring 3,000 items.
On June 13, the festival hopes to break the Guinness World Record for most fully costumed Wizard of Oz characters in one place. The current record is 446.
Garland was born Frances Gumm in Grand Rapids. She died in 1969.
