RED LAKE, Minn. — The Red Lake Band of Ojibwe has elected a new tribal chairman in northwestern Minnesota.
Members voted Tribal Treasurer Darrell G. Seki, Sr. into the tribe's top office Wednesday. He received nearly 54 percent of the vote, among the four candidates.
Incumbent Floyd "Buck" Jourdain received 36 percent.
He was elected in 2004 and was chairman when 16-year-old Jeffrey Weise killed his grandfather and grandfather's companion, then went to Red Lake High School and killed seven others before taking his own life in March 2005.
