MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Common Council is honoring a police officer who survived being shot in the face.

WISN-TV reports ( ) aldermen passed a resolution on Tuesday recognizing Officers Graham Kunisch's service after retiring in March.

Officers Graham Kunisch and Bryan Norberg were monitoring students leaving a high school when they saw a man riding a bike on the sidewalk, violating a city ordinance in June 2009. They yelled at him to stop and chased him, but when they caught up to him, he shot both officers at close range.

Kunisch was shot in the face and lost an eye. Norberg was shot in the head.

After a long recovery, the officers returned to full duty in July 2010. Norberg is still on the force.
