TWINS UPDATE

The Twins began the week in second place in the AL Central, but losing three out of four to Cleveland has dropped them into a last-place tie with the Indians. Can the Twins emerge from the Motor City clear of last place? ... Righthander Anthony Swarzak will try to bounce back from an awful outing Thursday during which he gave up three earned runs in a third of an inning. That's three consecutive shaky outings for him. ... The Twins are 10-9 at Comerica Park over the past two seasons, 4-5 last season. ... Phil Hughes has trouble with Miguel Cabrera, a career .536 hitter against him with five home runs. ... Joe Mauer is a career .371 hitter against Justin Verlander. It would be nice if he could play Friday.

TIGERS UPDATE

Detroit had its eight-game winning streak stopped by Houston in a 6-2 loss on Thursday. The Tigers, at one point, led for 56 consecutive innings during that streak. ... Victor Martinez's streak, however, did not end. He has a hit in 11 consecutive games and homered Thursday for the second game in a row. ... Remember when Anibal Sanchez left a start against the Twins on April 26 because of a blister on his middle finger? He's on the DL because of that blister, so Robbie Ray will start for him on Sunday. It will be Ray's second major league start. ... Torii Hunter is a career .321 hitter against the Twins, the highest of any opponent who has played at least 50 games against them.
