9 a.m. update: Rush hour wrap up

TGIF, and for commuters the day got off to a good start with dry roads for the first time in how many days? That combined with light levels of traffic in most areas made for swift drives to work and school.

Naturally we had a few execeptions, and the most notable snarl was on southbound Hwy. 100 just south of I-394.  A stalled vehicle in the left lane fouled traffic for about 30 minutes during the peak of the rush. Around 7:45 a.m., traffic stacked up from Duluth Street past the scene.  Things have loosened now.

Southbound 494 drivers through Plymouth were slowed by a crash involving a U-haul truck at 49th Avenue. The action on the right shoulder was in place for about 45 minutes. Traffic, however, slowed only enough to add a few minutes to the drive.

Today seemed to be the day for junk on the road. We had boxes, straps and tire treads impedeing traffic. Remember to secure your items before heading out.

I'll be posting a rundown on this weekend's road construction and closures later this morning, so check back. As always, story ideas and questions are accepted at drive@startribune.com.

Make it a good weekend.
