• Niederreiter is a 21-year-old native of Chur, Switzerland.

• A physical forward, he is listed at 6-2, 205 pounds.

• He had two goals, including the overtime winner, and an assist at Colorado on Thursday night in the Wild's 5-4 victory. In the previous six games, he had only one assist. It was the third time in NHL history a player got his first two playoff goals in a Game 7.

• He was taken fifth overall in the 2010 draft by the N.Y. Islanders. After the Islanders prematurely played him on the fourth line as a teenager in 2011-12, by all accounts simply to stay above the draft floor, Niederreiter asked to be traded. That put him out of favor with GM Garth Snow, who responded by not inviting him to training camp in 2012-13 despite a strong first half in Bridgeport (AHL).

• On June 30, 2013, the Islanders traded him to the Wild for fan favorite Cal Clutterbuck.

• Niedereitter had 36 points for the Wild this season, playing in 81 games.

• On the first day of training camp in September, coach Mike Yeo said the first thing he noticed about Niederreiter was his "silly hard shot."

• He is a tennis fanatic, with Swiss tennis star Roger Federer being his idol.

• He is the second-youngest player in Stanley Cup playoff history to record an overtime goal in a Game 7 (Claude Lemieux, 20, in 1986 for Montreal against Hartford).
