Political ribbing

"The White House Correspondents Dinner," that annual event that turns rigid Washington reporters into star-struck fans, will be hosted by Joel McHale, which means there's a pretty good chance he'll beg President Obama for an executive order to give "Community" three more seasons. 7 p.m. Saturday, CNN

After 'Midnight'

Andrew Garfield takes a break from web-slinging to host "Saturday Night Live." Coldplay is scheduled to perform — unless singer Chris Martin and producer Lorne Michaels have a conscious uncoupling. 10:30 p.m. Saturday, KARE, Ch. 11

Oliver's twist

"Last Week Tonight With John Oliver" got off to a promising if fairly conventional start last Sunday, with a format and attitude that seemed an awful lot like "Son of the Daily Show." That's understandable, considering that's where nearly all of Oliver's TV experience came from. Oliver is too smart to just turn in an impression of Jon Stewart. Look for him to slowly make the show his own. 10 p.m. Sunday, HBO

Block heads

In what's being billed as the most expensive episode ever of "The Simpsons," the residents of Springfield find themselves made out of Lego bricks and must decide whether they ever want to return. Sounds wonderful, but I'm holding out until there's a Homer Simpson constructed out of Tinkertoys. 7 p.m. Sunday, KMSP, Ch. 9.
