Robbinsdale High to honor 10 alumni

Ten alumni of Robbinsdale High School will be honored on Saturday evening, May 3, as the inaugural members of the RHS Hall of Fame. The high school closed in 1982 after 48 years. The building now houses Robbinsdale Middle School, which is where Saturday's event will be held.

The honorees are: Dr. Barbara J. Johnston, Class of '47 (medicine and science); Ronald N. Handberg, Class of '55 (arts and Entertainment); Carmen Warner-Robbins, '59 (humanitarian and service); James Lukaszewski, '60 (business and professional); Michael B. Fiterman, '66 (business and professional); Barry Morrow, '66 (arts and entertainment, humanitarian and service); Richard M. Hagstrom, '69 (business and professional); Ember Reichgott Junge, '70 (lifetime recognition); Dennie Gordon, '71 (arts and entertainment); and John Jacobson, '79 (arts and entertainment).

The event will begin with a 6 p.m. re-dedication of the high school and placement of a marker identifying the building as a historical landmark. At 6:30 p.m., the Robbinsdale City Band will play and tours of the building will be available. The hall of fame ceremony will take place at 7 p.m., followed by a reception in the cafeteria. Community members, former students, staff and teachers are welcome to attend. The school is at 3730 Toledo Av. N., Robbinsdale.

Edina

Parenting in high-tech age is focus of classes

Edina public school families, staff and students are invited to two classes on May 1 and 12 about parenting in the digital age. Each session will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday's session will take place at the Valley View Media Center, while the May 12 session will take place in the South View Media Center.

Richfield

Blessed Trinity school receives STEM grant

Blessed Trinity Catholic School in Richfield is a recipient of a 2014 STEM grant from MISF (Minnesota Independent School Forum).

The STEM grant awards will be presented at the 2014 MISF Education Awards on May 13 at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.

Blessed Trinity will use the grant money to work with Curious Minds LLC to provide hands-on engineering and science learning to students at an early age.

Wayzata

Blue Water Theatre to hold auditions

Blue Water Theatre Company will soon hold auditions for its summer 2014 production of the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical "State Fair."

Auditions are open to all current students in grades 6 to 12 (2013-14 school year). They will be held at Blue Water Theatre Company's Wayzata studio, 1250 E. Wayzata Blvd., from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on May 7, 9 and 10.

Actors may come to their choice of one of the three auditions dates.

Rehearsals will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily July 7 to 31.
