A former chairman of the Scott County Board will seek a seat in the Minnesota House.

Bob Vogel, a banker from Elko New Market, dropped out of the race for his board seat in 2008, after six years representing the mostly rural southeast portion of the county.

Earlier this month, Rep. Kelby Woodard, R-Belle Plaine, announced he will make the same choice, pulling out of any quest for re-election to his post representing District 20A.

Vogel will seek Republican endorsement for the position after years of involvement in civic activity.

President of a community bank, Vogel was known as a fiscal hawk on the county board, on items other than roads.

He said his platform for legislator will stress cutting spending and regulation.
