They were 0-4 at Tropicana Field last year and have lost nine of 11 there since 2011. … With Gibson winning his first three starts, the Twins decided to flip-flop him and Pelfrey to start this series. … This is one of Joe Mauer’s preferred places to hit. He is batting .419 with three homers and 21 RBI in 24 games. … Kurt Suzuki is batting .423 on the road, and Chris Colabello is at .371. … Manager Ron Gardenhire has been pleased with rookie reliever Michael Tonkin, who has given up one earned run over 4⅓ innings. Gardenhire said Tonkin is mixing his pitches much better, which helps his fastball.
Lefthander C.J. Riefenhauser walked in the go-ahead run in a 5-1, 12-inning loss to the Yankees on Sunday, then was sent to Class AAA Durham after the game. Righthander Juan Carlos Oviedo, returning from Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery, will be activated from the disabled list in time for Tuesday’s game. … Price, the 2012 AL Cy Young Award winner, is 2-2 with a 2.66 ERA in his seven career appearances (six starts) against the Twins. … Evan Longoria on Saturday became Tampa Bay’s all-time leading home run hitter with the 164th of his career. He homered the last time he faced Pelfrey.
