A new Maple Grove police chief is expected to be named in the next week.

On Saturday, the City Council interviewed six finalists to replace David Jess, who is retiring May 30 after three years as chief and three decades with the department.

"He has been a very dedicated leader for 30 years. We will miss him," City Administrator Al Madsen said.

It's not the only west-metro city with a new top police leader. Minnetonka Police Chief Mark Raquet is retiring at the end of May, and the city has appointed Jeff Sebenaler, a Minnetonka police captain, to the position. And last week, Robbinsdale named Jim Franzen to the top police spot; the former captain has been in the interim role since the city's former chief, Steven Smith, resigned in March after he was arrested in a prostitution sting.
