MNfashion announced its decision to continue promoting local fashion events and initiatives.

The nonprofit organization has been on hiatus since January after taking some time to re-evaluate its mission, said executive director, Tara Murphy.

MNfashion, which had been a longtime fixture of Minneapolis-St. Paul Fashion Week, didn't produce its spring events this year, such as The Shows and the Emerging Designers Showcase.

But the group now says it will once again declare the biannual fashion weeks, as well as produce special events.

"We heard a lot from the community after MNfashion made the announcement in January," said Murphy. "People still really want someone there organizing and picking out the dates for fashion week, so we're going to continue doing that."

Murphy said the organization will maintain an event calendar at www.mnfashion.org, and for a nominal fee, designers can pay to have their fashion events promoted.

"With over 6,500 followers between Facebook and Twiter alone, our social media presence is strong," Murphy said.

Profits from the calendar will go toward website costs and offer administrators a stipend compensation. Additional revenue will support local fashion education programs.

Dates for the fall 2014 Minneapolis-St. Paul Fashion Week are Sept. 12-19.

In addition to maintaining a digital presence to promote local fashion initiatives, Murphy said the group will be getting involved with "special projects" such as Avant Garden at the Walker Art Center and others to be announced later.
