'THE MAGIC FLUTE'
Opens Saturday: Minnesota Opera's new production of Mozart's "The Magic Flute" originated at the Komische Oper in Berlin in 2012 and was created by the avant-garde British theater group 1927. Minnesota Opera is collaborating with LA Opera to bring this production to the United States. The fanciful production translates Mozart's magic into the style of 1920s silent films. For example, the slave Monostatos is costumed as Nosferatu. The singers interact with puppets and live animation. (7:30 p.m. Sat., 2 p.m. Sun., 7:30 p.m. April 15-19 & 23, 2 p.m. April 27. $20-$200. Ordway Center, 345 Washington St., St. Paul. 612-333-6669 or MNopera.org.)
