Wolves' Cunningham charged with felony domestic assault
- April 5, 2014 - 8:38 AM
Timberwolves forward Dante Cunningham was charged Friday in Hennepin County District Court with felony domestic assault at his Medina home.
Cunningham, 26, was arrested early Thursday at his residence in the 400 block of Medina Road. He was released from Hennepin County jail Friday evening; bail had been set at $40,000.
According to the criminal complaint, the woman called 911 early Thursday to say Cunningham had tried to strangle her. When police arrived, they found she had redness and marks on her neck.
The woman told them that she has been dating Cunningham since last summer and that they have lived together for eight months, the complaint said. She said they had been having problems lately.
About 3:30 a.m. Thursday, they got into an argument and she locked the bedroom door after Cunningham left in anger, she told police. A short time later, the complaint said, he came back and kicked in the bedroom door. He grabbed her by the neck, slammed her against the wall and choked her for about 15 to 20 seconds before letting her go and leaving the home, the complaint says.
Cunningham returned while police were present and was arrested. He is expected to appear in court Monday afternoon, according to the Hennepin County attorney’s office.
Wolves president of basketball operations Flip Saunders said on KFAN radio Friday that the team and the NBA are monitoring the situation.
“No way do we condone these types of situations,” he said.
