WAUSAU, Wis. — A Merrill teen has pleaded not guilty to lying about a cancer diagnosis and collecting some money raised on her behalf.

Nineteen-year-old Celina Winchell is charged with obstructing an officer and theft. Prosecutors allege Winchell said on Facebook that she had lung cancer and couldn't afford treatment.

A friend placed a donation jar at Sam's Pizza in Wausau. An employee said Winchell would randomly stop by and take money from the jar, causing the worker to become suspicious.

Winchell says she never said that she definitely had cancer, only that it was a possibility. A trial date is set for June 26.
