Maple Grove is looking for a new police chief.

After 29 years with the Police Department, Chief David Jess is retiring May 30. He has worked in the department since 1985 and as police chief since 2011.

"He has achieved a stellar reputation," City Administrator Al Madsen wrote to the City Council in the approval last week of Jess' retirement notice. "We are thankful for the many years of service Chief Jess has provided to the city."

The city is posting the job opening both internally and externally; Madsen said that he expects to receive many applications and that he hopes to name a new chief by April.

Another west-metro police chief, Minnetonka's Mark Raquet, is also retiring at the end of May. The city has appointed Jeff Sebenaler, a Minnetonka police captain, to the top police spot.
