Someone on the University of Minnesota Duluth campus carrying what turned out to be a plastic-pellet gun prompted a brief lockdown on Thursday that ended with two teenagers arrested and no one hurt, a school official said.

The incident began shortly after 7:15 a.m. near Kirby Plaza, when two people "walked into the Kirby Plaza Bus Hub, and an alert employee observed that one of them dropped what appeared to be a gun and called 911," a statement from the school read.

Arrested were a 19-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy, the school said.

Authorities recovered an air-soft pistol, a gun that fires plastic pellets.

Both teens could be charged with disorderly conduct, underage drinking and drug possession, the statement said. Neither are UMD students, said UMD spokeswoman Lori Melton.
