Good for United Airlines for the news that it will follow its own restrictions and solve a problem the airlines have foisted upon themselves. Since airlines imposed a baggage fee on travelers, the boarding process has become a nightmare. The fact that passengers have continued to be allowed to carry on more bags than the airlines' own rules allow has made the experience even worse.

My biggest gripe is about getting to the gate, after having checked my bag and paid my ridiculous fee for it, and having to listen to the gate attendants announce that "this flight is full and there won't be enough room for everyone's carry-ons, so we'll go ahead and check your bags through for free — just bring them to the counter and get a tag."

So, good for United for making passengers with oversize luggage go back to the ticket counter and pay for their bags as well. That appeases me a little.
