Flipped vehicles were the story of the morning. Black ice led to numerous other types of crashes that snarled traffic during the middle portion of the rush hour.
Drivers on southbound I-35 and 35W has it the worst with rollover crashes at County 22 in Wyoming, County Road 23 in Circle Pines, Lexington Avenue and Lake Drive. A three-vehicle crash at Hwy. 97 also added to the misery.
A violent rollover on northbound 35E at Maryland Avenue had a huge impact on traffic. Southbound drivers got caught in a gawker slow down while the crash also brought eastbound and westbound 94 traffic heading into downtown St. Paul to a crawl.
Travel times hit 40 minutes on southbound Hwy. 169 from I-94 to 494 at one time. A crash at 394 didn't help matters.
Northstar riders enjoyed a second day of minimal delays with most trains running on time. No delays on the Blue Line were reported.
At present, the spate of crashes has ended with one fender bender residing on the shoulder of eastbound 394 at General Mills Blvd.
Southbound 35W is still busy from Hwy. 10 to Washington Avenue. That is still running at 22 minutes.
