Gophers at a glance: The Gophers (17-11, 6-9 Big Ten) have a few big opportunities remaining to pull out of their extended slump, but they're running out of time. After a 10-point lead at Ohio State morphed into an 18-point loss, Minnesota has now lost six of its past eight games. At Ohio State, the Gophers played strong defense in the first half, holding the Buckeyes to only 18 points, but shot only 29.2 percent from the field in the second half. … Mo Walker and Elliott Eliason combined for only eight points as the Gophers inside game disappeared. The Gophers, who scored only .79 points per possession against Ohio State, have failed to reach 60 possessions in any of the past three games. … DeAndre Mathieu has led the team in scoring in the past nine games with 12.4 points per game.

Iowa at a glance: The Hawkeyes (19-7, 8-5) likely will come into the Twin Cities angry after dropping their last game, against Wisconsin at home Saturday. Devyn Marble had 21 points and a career-high 11 assists. He has scored 62 points in the past three games, and is the only active Big Ten player to amass at least 1,550 points, 350 assists, 150 steals and 425 rebounds. … Iowa is 6-0 after losses this season. Iowa is sitting fifth in the Big Ten, behind Wisconsin, Michigan State, Ohio State and Michigan. Iowa has not lost to a team outside the RPI top 18. … The first time the Gophers played Iowa this season, in Iowa City, the Hawkeyes rebounded from a 10-point deficit to pull out the 21-point victory. … Iowa coach Fran McCaffery reportedly told players to shut down their Twitter accounts for the rest of the season after senior Zach McCabe exchanged barbs with detractors, lashing out at his critics after the game. McCabe deleted the post and apologized.
