MADISON, N.J. — The leader of a private women's college in Minnesota will become the next president of Drew University in New Jersey.

The school announced the appointment of MaryAnn Baenninger on Monday but did not disclose her salary. She will assume her new post on July 21, becoming the first full-term female president in Drew's 147-year history.

Baenninger will replace interim president Vivian Bull, a former longtime economics professor at Drew who also was president emerita of Linfield College in Oregon. She has led the Madison-based university since Robert Weisbuch stepped down in June 2012

Drew is a four-year private university with roughly 2,400 students.

Baenninger now serves as president of the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn.
