A man was killed Sunday afternoon in a drive-by shooting in south Minneapolis, police said.

The victim, believed to be in his mid-30s, was sitting in a sport-utility vehicle when he was shot by someone in a dark-colored car, police spokesman John Elder said.

The shooting occurred just before 4 p.m. in the 3400 block of Snelling Avenue S.

Officers found the victim dead after responding to a call about multiple shots fired, Elder said.

It was not yet known, Elder said, whether anyone was with the suspect at the time of the shooting.

He said police were gathering evidence and canvassing the neighborhood.

The victim's name has not been released.
