From Italian style star to local soccer pro, Minnesota United FC player Simone Bracalello has set himself apart with his brand of "fashionable sportsman." Here, he opens up about his personal style, his hair and what he'd want from his closet if he were stranded on a desert island.

Q: What are you wearing?

A: A Dolce & Gabbana leather jacket and dress shirt, a handmade Magliaro cardigan from Tuscany, Banana Republic pants, Migliore Italian custom boots, a reversible Tommy Hilfiger belt and a Michael Kors watch.

Q: What's your fashion philosophy?

A: When you're Italian, fashion is in your culture. We really take care of our clothes and how we look. It's something natural for us and I always like to look good … but I have to [remind] myself that I'm an athlete so I have to be comfortable in my clothes and be ready for the next run. I'm also getting more conscious of the environment. So I like to find new brands that are handmade.

Q: You're stranded on a desert island and can only have five things from your closet — what do you choose?

A: My Armani sunglasses and swimsuit. [If it's] a tropical island I will need my soft-shell [jacket] from Mountain Hardwear to protect me from the heavy rain and my Asics to go find resources. The fifth would be my Bagutta dress shirt, because when my wife comes to save me I want to look good.

Q: What old-fashioned trend would you most like to revive?

A: I just watched "The Great Gatsby" — that trend would be the one.

Q: What product do you use in your hair?

A: A wax that can hold my hair in position even in a tough game. I haven't found anyone here to cut my hair the way they cut it in Italy.
