The Minnesota Senate's email system has been out of commission since Friday.

"The (Senate staff) have been working on this with consultants since Friday and throughout the weekend," the Secretary of Senate JoAnne Zoff delivered all Senators and staff Monday afternoon. "They have systematically investigated numerous possible sources of the problem, and continue to do so."

On Monday evening, a week before the Legislature reconvenes into session, Senate's site led with a notice about the outage.

"Senate email is currently unavailable, you may monitor this site for status," it read.

The problem means that no email was getting to or going out from the Senate server.

But senators found other ways of reaching out.

Turning to the social media service Twitter, Sen. Kent Eken, DFL-Twin Valley, tweeted Monday: "Email is down at the @mncapitol, please call my office 651-296-3205 if you need assistance. #mnleg"

The Senate phones, as of last report, were up and in working order.
