The Wolves, shorthanded with the loss of center Nikola Pekovic, got some good news here at Target Center this evening.

Forward/center Anthony Davis, New Orleans’ emerging star, will not play tonight after dislocating the index finger on his left hand Tuesday night in a victory over Cleveland. Davis, one of four players averaging over 20 points and 10 rebounds in the league this season (Kevin Love is another) hurt the finger in the fourth quarter, but still finished the game with 30 points and eight blocks. New Orleans coach Monty Williams said Davis wanted to play, but the decision was made to have him sit at least one game out.

“It changes things a lot,” Wolves coach Rick Adelman said. “Number one, he’s a heck of a player.  I watched the game last night, and he was very good. On the other side of it, it looks like they’ll be playing small. They have a lot of guys who can create and attack you.”

It’s a big blow to the Pelicans, who have already been without Ryan Anderson (back), Jrue Holiday (leg) and Jason Smith (knee)  for a while. Still, they have won three straight and four out of five entering tonight’s game.

I’ll get back to you after the game. Enjoy your evening.
