Penn State gives No. 2 Boston College a scare

• BOSTON COLLEGE 3, PENN STATE 2: Johnny Gaudreau had a goal and an assist as the No. 2 Eagles (18-4-3) edged the host Nittany Lions (4-15-1) in nonconference. Penn State, which got goals from Eric Scheid in the second period and Taylor Holstrom in the third shorthanded, outshot Boston College 35-30 before a sellout crowd of 6,214.

• OHIO STATE 3, WISCONSIN 1: Nick Oddo scored the winning goal late in the second period and Christian Frey had 36 saves as the Buckeyes (12-9-1, 2-5-1) got a split with the No. 9 Badgers (14-7-1, 5-3) at the Kohl Center.

• DENVER 3, NORTH DAKOTA 0: Sam Brittain stopped 43 shots as the No. 16 Pioneers (13-8-5, 7-5-2-1) ended No. 18 North Dakota’s unbeaten streak at 10. UND (13-8-3, 8-6) had gone 9-0-1.
