A 22-year-old Maple Grove man died Saturday in a snowmobile crash in north-central Minnesota, authorities said.

According to a statement from the Todd County Sheriff's Office released Sunday:

Authorities received a report of a missing man at 11:23 a.m. Saturday.

Friends of Jared Wallenfelsz said they had last seen him driving a snowmobile away from his family's cabin on Long Lake about 1:30 a.m. that morning.

Deputies went to the scene and searched the area using snowmobiles. At 12:43 p.m., deputies found Wallenfelsz and his crashed snowmobile on a wooded lot on the northwest side of the lake.

Authorities said he died in the crash. Poor visibility because of weather, alcohol use and speed are likely factors, according to authorities.

The lake is about two hours northwest of Minneapolis.
